They look good . . . I'd always wondered why at least some troops didn't wear black.

I suppose there might be something about black dye? And not enough black sheep to provide black wool ( lol )? Black is a hard color to keep strong, tends to fade to gray easily even these days.

Impressive, potentially intimidating (it's not by accident that in many places the blue of police uniforms becomes darker and darker).
