The Swedish center is moving forward.

The cavalry battle has raged for some time with the Swedish gradually gaining.

The Swedish infantry are running out of steam and are beginning to withdrawal.

The Swedish infantry have consolidated their position and wait a Russian attack.

On the Swedish left flank the cavalry have finally defeated the Russians, but they cannot save the day. The Russians won the battle but are in no condition to pursue the Swedish. A near run thing indeed.

On the Beerstein left flank, the Sicilian Grenadiers are victorious and can only be stopped by the valiant counter attack of Prince Wilhelm and the Holstein Leib Hussars.

On the Beerstein right flank, all efforts to drive off the Sicilian Infantry fail.

The situation is only stabilized by the presence of the Beeretein Cuirassiers.

After reorganizing his army, Reich Duke Wilhelm advances on Naples.

Reich Duke Wilhelm plans to attack Naples with the two infantry brigades on his right flank.

The cavalry on the west flank are to move further west to entend the Sicilian line.

The plans seems to be working as the infantry are moving toward Naples unchallenged.

The Sicilian Infantry, which was held in reserve in the center, begins to react to the Beerstein advance on Naples.

Reich Duke Wilhelm watches as the Sicilians advance on his left flank and move their reserve infantry toward Naples. He is confident his infantry will occupy Naples long before the Sicilians realize they have been out maneuvered. Further dispatches to follow.

Battle of Alsfeld part II

On the far right of the Hesse-Boozewick line their numbers are being to turn the battle in their favor. The Crown Royal Garde zu Fuss and the Glenlivet Fusiliers managed to double up on a hapless French Battalion and exact heavy casualties. Meanwhile the Meyers Musketeers reengaged the same French unit and forced them back an additional several hundred paces.

Schenley's Musketeers can been seen pressing their assault on the village of Alsfeld. After an intense hand to hand fight, Schenley's Musketeers gain a firm foothold inside the village.

The French Artillery continue to pound Hesse-Boozewick infantry as the French Infantry press home their attack on Murphy's Musketeer. Although both sides sustained heavy casualties, the French forced poor Murphy's boys back several hundred paces.

On the extreme right of the French line, the heavy brigade brace themselves for a charge of the Chivas Regal and Teacher's Cuirassiers. The Boozewick Cuirassiers quickly routed their French counterparts.

In the center of the battle line, the Boozewick Artillery begin to exact heavy punishment on the French Battery who were unable to defend themselves.

The Hesse-Boozewick Cuirassiers renew their attack on the French Heavy Cavalry and put them to flight again.

Sensing victory the Boozewick Dragoons rally and attack the stunned French Dragoons.

After a see-saw battle, Schenley's' Musketeers continued to hold their ground and push the French deeper into Alsfeld. The battle outside the village was a total Boozewick victory. The Crown Royal Garde zu Fuss overwhelmed and captured a French Battalion complete with it's flags. The French army sensing a complete rout began to retire from the field. Lord Calvert was content to hold the battlefield as his center was nearly broken by the continued vicious attacks of the French Infantry and artillery. All and all, a fine day's work!

Battle of Alsfeld part I: Duchy of Hesse-Boozewick vs the vile French

On the far left of the Hesse-Boozewick line Brigadier Graf Hiram Walker's Cuirassiers deploy. To their right is his his brothers infantry brigade. Brigadier Baron Johnny Walker "Black" leads the Seagrams Fusiliers and the Ballantine Musketeers. Brigadier Dunhill massed his brigade on a small hill facing the French center. His Glenfiddich Grenadiers and Murphy's Musketeers were merely to demonstrate and hold the French in place.

In the center of the Hesse-Boozewick line, Marshal Lord Calvert positioned the White Horse Battery. To the right of the battery, Brigadier Prince Jack Daniels brigade is formed up in column of attack. His orders were to attack the village of Alsfeld with the Schenley's Musketeers using the Meyers Musketeers as support.

On the Hesse-Boozewick far right is Brigadier von Jameson's Glenlivet Fusiliers and the Crown Royal Garde zu Fuss. Jameson's Brigade was to maneuver to the right of Alsfeld and support the main attack.

The French aggressively advance an infantry brigade in the center while their Guard Brigade formed column and extended their line to their right. The French Heavy Cavalry can been seen moving to entend the French line further to their right. On the far right of the French line two cavalry brigades are formed up to face the Hesse-Boozewick cavalry.

As the French Guard move into position, a heavy battery pivots to support the aggressive French advance in the center. Another French Infantry Brigade can be seen retiring from the Boozewick Artillery Battery attempting to form up on the out skirts of Alsfeld.

Brigadier Dunhill's Brigade has come under fire from the French battery as the French Infantry advance on his position. Brigadier Graf Jim Beam's Dragoons have moved up to fill the gap between the Hesse-Boozewick Infantry and their Cuirassiers.

Brigade Dunhill watches as the French approach and begins to hope Baron Johnny Walker's Brigade will turn and flank the attacking French.

Meanwhile on the Hesse-Boozwick right, Prince Jack Daniels begins to double out his columns into line. The Meyers Musketeer, still in column, can be seen charging a French Infantry Battalion.

From another angle, the Schenley's Musketeers can be seen assaulting the village of Alsfeld. As fate would have it, both attacks were won by the Boozewickers forcing the French to retire several hundred paces.

On the Hesse-Boozewick left, the Dragoons attacked the French cavalry and drove both regiments back several hundred paces. The French Infantry can be seen fast approaching Baron Walker's Brigade while the French Artillery continues pounding his exposed infantry. The battle report will continue is future dispatches.

Reich Duke Wilhelm orders his troops to retire to the village of Warsteiner

On the Beerstein right flank, the Coors Cuirassiers attacked the Lorraine Limoges Cuirassiers and pushed them back several hundred passes. The Coors Cuirassiers held the ground to assist the Oldenburg Grenzers who were attacked by the Languedoc Cuirassiers. Amazingly our grenzers were able to repel the Lorraine Cuirassier with heavy losses.

On the left center, the Pabst Musketeers were attacked by the Lorraine Guards and the Burgundy Battalion. Reich Duke Wilhelm watches as the Provence Battalion attacks the Isenbeck and Auerbrau Musketeers. It looks like the the Lorraine troops are on a roll.

On the right flank things look promising for the Beersteiners. Both Lorraine Cuirassiers have been pushed back and the Warsteiner Fusiliers seem to be out shooting the Champagne Battalion. Brig Sir David seems very pleased indeed!

On the far right, the Holstein Leib Hussars have been repulsed by the Loire Grenzers and the Auerbrau Musketeers have been severely damaged by the Lorraine Artillery Battery and an attack by the Provence Battalion.

The gallant Holstein Hussars were repulsed again by the Loire Grenzers. Both units have suffered heavy casualties, but the Lorrainers were clearly victorious.

In the center, the Pabst Battalion forced the Lorraine Guard to retire several hundred passed and saved the Auerbrau Battalion from complete destruction. Although the center is holding the Beerstein boys are still in a difficult position.

Reich Duke Wilhelm watches as the Lorraine Infantry renew their assault in the Center. Despite the Slitz Battery finally getting into position on a low ridge it looks bad for the Beersteiners.

Reich Duke Wilhelm ordered the Corona Cuirassiers and the Warsteiner Fusiliers to attack the Chablis Battalion. Under the cover of this final assault, the Beerstein army retires from the field yielding Heineken Abbey in the hands of Landgrave Camil de Lorraine.

The Lorraine center is composed of Brig James Ferry's first line (Provence, Burgandy, and Champagne Battalions) and Brig Edmond Villiaume's second line (Lorraine Guards and Chablis Battalions).

The Lorraine right flank is anchored on the Abbey of Heineken. The Loire Grenzers protect the Grenoble Artillery Battery.

As Brig Duc Ferry's advance in the center, Beerstein's Brig Graf Lager Bierman's Augerbrau and Isenbeck Musketeers form a two line defense on the left.

Maj Gen, Sir David Linienblatt advances the Warsteiner Fusiliers and the Pabst Musketeers on the right to try to stem the Lorraine advance. The Warsteiner Fusiliers take aim at the Burgundy Battalion and fire a devastating first volley. Despite the losses, the Lorraine Infantry continue their advance.

After a stout defensive action, the Lorraine first line falls back several hundred paces to regroup. Brig St. Pern was able to quickly rally his troops and continues his attack on the brave Beerstein boys. The Battle rages on and will be continued in a future dispatch.

The right flanks consists of another Heavy Battery, Hungarian Line, and Grenzers. The Battle Plan is to advance the cavalry, refuse the left flank, and attack in the center and on the right flank.

The Austrian Cavalry advanced as planned, but at an irregular pace. The Prussian Cuirassier took advantage of the Austrians disarray and pounced on the Dragoons.

After several charges and counter-charges, the Austrians were pushed back with heavy losses.

The Austrian left flank were forced to rotate to the left to avoid being rolled up by the victorious Prussian Cuirassiers.

In the center, the Austrian Grenadiers and Saxons steadily marched toward the Prussian Infantry who had taken refuge behind a small hill to avoid an artillery bombardment.

On the right flank the artillery continually bombarded the village on Badberg, while the Hungarians and Grenzers slowly advanced.

A final assault by the Prussian Cuirassier put the Austrian Hussars and Dragoons to flight. Unfortunately, the Cuirassiers were blown and unable to advance or retreat. This provided the Austrian infantry a chance to fire devastating volleys into the hapless Cuirassiers forcing them to retire from the battle.

In the center, the Austrian Grenadiers were able to destroy two Prussian Infantry units, while the Saxons were able to out shoot their Prussian counterparts.

On the right, the Austrian Artillery pounded away at Badberg seriously damaging two Prussian Infantry unit in turn. A final assault by the Hungarians forced the Prussians to surrender the village. The extreme right Grenzers were forced to fall back after a vicious assault by the Prussian.

The Reich Duchy of Beerstein forces disembarked from Austrian transport ships on 17 December just north of Messina. Within several kilometers march inland, Reich Duke Wilhelm was confronted by the Army of Sicily commanded by King Joseph. The Beerstein Army was hastily formed into Line of Battle. The left flank was commanded by Prinz Wilhelm II, with his Heavy Cavalry Brigade formed on the extreme left of the army. The Slitz Light Artillery Battery took up a position on a low ridge line to support the heavy cavalry. The First Infantry Brigade and the Ales Heavy Artillery Battery formed the center of the battle line. The Guard and Grenadier Brigade were held in reserve behind the First Infantry Brigade. Reich Duke Wilhelm posted the Second Infantry Brigade and the Light Cavalry Brigade to cover the right flank of the army.

The Battle of Messina opened with the Beerstein Ales Heavy Artillery Battery firing on the Sicilian Heavy Artillery. After several barrages, the Ales Battery seemed to be gaining the upper hand.

As the Amberbock Fusiliers advanced in the center, they were engaged by the Sicilian Heavy Artillery Battery. Eventually, heavy casualties forced the Amberbock Fusiliers to fall back under the protection of the Guinness Musketeers. Despite sustaining many casualties from the Sicilian Light Artillery Battery, the Pabst Musketeers managed to hold their position. Seeing the devastating effect of the Sicilian Light Artillery, the Holsten Leib Hussars bravely charged the battery. The Sicilian Light Battery fired into the Hussars at close range, and fled for their lives. Since the guns were supported by Sicilian Grenadiers, the Holsten Hussars were forced to retire without spiking the guns. However, their gallant charge saved the Pabst Musketeers from total destruction. The Hoegaaden Lancers followed the hussars and engaged the Sicilian 8th Line Infantry Battalion, forcing them to retire. Unfortunately, the lancers took many casualties and wisely retired along side the Holsten Leib Hussars. As the Light Cavalry Brigade attempted to recover from their gallant charge, they came under fire by the Sicilian Grenadiers. Increasing casualties forced the Light Cavalry Regiments to retire behind the Second Infantry Brigade.

On the left flank, Prinz Wilhelm II led his Heavy Cavalry Brigade in a desperate attack on two advancing Sicilian Infantry Battalions. The Pilsner Horse Grenadiers engaged the Sicilian 11th Line Battalion, while the Corona Cuirassiers charged the 12th Line Battalion. Despite the success of both cavalry regiments, they were forced to retire due to heavy casualties. In support of Prinz Wilhelm, the Slitz Light Artillery fired into the weakened Sicilians forcing the the 11th and 12th Battalions to retreat with heavy casualties. As the Sicilian Heavy Cavalry advance to fill the gap caused by their fleeing infantry, Prinz Wilhelm's weakened brigade sought refuge behind the light battery.

On the right flank, the Warsteiner Fusiliers engaged the Sicilian 2nd Line Battalion. Although both units sustained a steady stream of casualties, neither would retire. The Carlsberg Musketeers were fired upon by both the Sicilian 1st Line Battalion and the 1st Grenadier Battalion. Despite heavy casualties, the Carlsbergers refused to retire. When the Guinness Musketeers attempted to relieve the pressure on the Carlsberg Battalion, they were bombarded by the Sicilian Heavy Artillery Battery. After several salvos, the Guinness Musketeers became unsteady, but held their ground.

In the center, The Ales Heavy Battery fired on an advancing Sicilian Hussar Regiment. After several blasts, the hussars were forced to retreat with very heavy losses. The Oldenburg Grenzers then passed through the Ales Battery to attack the advancing 7th Sicilian Line Battalion. After a fierce struggle, the Grenzers were repulsed. Upon regrouping, the Grenzers attacked the 7th again. This time they forced the 7th to retire disorganized. Sensing victory, the Grenzers attacked the 7th Line for a third time. Casualties were so heavy on both sides, they both routed. The gallantry of the Grenzers stabilized the center and allowed the Guard and Grenadier Brigade to deploy.

Although the center was secured, the right flank was beginning to crumble. The Warsteiner Fusiliers continued their fire fight with the 2nd Line Battalion. The weakened Carlsberg Musketeers were again fired on by the 1st Sicilian Grenadiers and were forced to retreat when the Grenadiers charged. Reich Duke Wilhelm ordered a general withdrawal when the Guinness Musketeers were also forced to retire. Under the cover of darkness, the Beerstein army was able to slip away. Although the Sicilian Army was in no condition to press their victory, King Joseph was content to hold the field of battle.

Legend records this was the first award ever presented to the Reich Duke. After crossing the River Ales, Brigadier Sir David Linienblatt, marched to the Capital of Alesgarden. He decided to garrison the city with the Saxe-Bearstein Battalion von Schafbock before continuing on to Anheuser.

Seeing the devastation of the recent battle, Brigadier Sir David Linienblatt decided to help the citizens of Anheuser by garrisoning the city with the St. Pauli Pontooniers and the San Miguel Pioneers.

The pontoon train, engineers, and vivandieres are specifically designed to repair the infrastructure and build defensive positions.

Brigadier Linienblatt has order the City of Anheuser to be fortified in case the army has to fall back to a defensive position. The San Miguel Pioneer were last seen preparing an artillery position for the Lady Louise Light Artillery.

Reich Duke Wilhelm has invested Sir David with the Military Order of the Golden Crown for his outstanding campaign against the the Covenant of Colon's Hesse-Holstadt forces. During the Battle of Hoegaaden, Prince Holstadt was killed by a burly sergeant of the Dun Haggis Highlanders. Brigadier, Sir David Linienblatt and his Aide Capt Brewer cross the pontoon bridge over the River Ales into the Barony of Alesgarden. The St. Pauli Pontooniers and the San Miguel Pioneers labored hard the complete the span.

Sir David's Dragoons utilized the ford to cross the River Ales, as the Saxe-Bearstein Infantry cross the pontoon bridge. Bree's Battery covers the Foreign Legion's river crossing.

Sir David Linienblatt inhader of the Beerstein Honourable Pensioners has been promoted to Brigadier General to lead this force. The St. Pauli Pontooniers will accompany the Legion to facilitate crossing the River Ales if necessary. He recently got a report that a captured Hesse-Holstadt agent had escaped with the help of an unidentified foreign cavalry unit.

Brigadier General Lager Biermann, the steady and reliable Commander of the First Brigade, crosses the River Amstal under the protection of the Warsteiner Fusiliers.

In preparation for the river crossing, Brigidier Biermann deployed the Blatz Artillery battery and sent the Warsteiner Fusilier across the bridge first to protect the Landbier Grenadiers and his Monte-Cristo Vivandiere supply train.

It has been reported that several Hesse Holstadt agents have been detained in Alesgarden and at least one horse unit was sighted near Hoegaaden.
